Preparation

### Dodecahedron

* The dodecahedron is a **Platonic solid** with 12 pentagons as **faces.**
    * It is the only **Platonic solid** with pentagons for **faces**.
    * In the dodecahedron at each vertex 3 pentagons meet.
    * It has a total of 20 vertices and 30 edges.
    * Each interior angle of a regular pentagon is 108°, and the sum of the three interior angles at each vertex is 324°.
* Platonic solids are shapes with regular, congruent polygons as **faces**.
    * The 5 Platonic solids are the tetrahedron, the hexahedron (cube), dodecahedron, octahedron, and icosahedron.
    * They are named after the Greek philosopher, Plato, one of the many people to study and write about these shapes.
* Regular dodecahedrons are very hard to find in nature.
    * The mineral called crystal pyrite forms in a dodecahedron shape.
    * Bubbles sometimes form in a dodecahedron shape.
* In society, people make visual art, climbing equipment, and dice for playing games in the shape of a dodecahedron.

All **Platonic solids** have **symmetry**, **regular polygons** as faces, and the same number of **faces** to meet at each vertex of the shape. The dodecahedron has a total of 20 vertices and 30 edges, which is not the same number.
