Preparation

### Marine Biome


    Biomes are regions of the Earth that share characteristics like
    plant life, temperature, and amount of precipitation. The **marine
    biome** is made up of oceans, which cover 70% of the Earth’s
    surface. These enormous saltwater bodies are the largest biome on
    Earth.


Oceans also have incredible biodiversity.

    *   Millions of animals, plants and algae call this biome home.

    *   Microscopic **phytoplankton** in the ocean produces 50% of the
    Earth’s oxygen.

    *   The vast ocean is home to the largest animal species on Earth,
    the blue whale, as well as sharks and other fascinating animals.

    *   Oysters filter and clean the ocean by eating algae.

    *   They also prey on larger animals such as crabs, starfish, and
    fish.

Phytoplankton and other organisms depend on sunlight for energy generation, which is plentiful near the surface. These organisms play a substantial role in the primary productivity of the ocean, sustaining the entire marine food web. The upper layers of the ocean receive the greatest amount of sunlight, which is crucial for photosynthesis.
